Kelly, Manful Earn Top Honors; Nine Named To Men’s Soccer All-Conference Teams

MEDIA, Pa. -- Senior Chris Manful (Baltimore, Md./Woodlawn) was named Penn State University Athletic Conference Men's Soccer Player of the Year for the second-straight season, while junior Raymond Kelly (Middletown, Del./Middletown) earned Defensive Player of the Year honors from the conference on Tuesday, leading nine Penn State Brandywine men's soccer players receiving all-conference awards.

Joining Kelly and Manful on the all-conference first team were Ali Abdelhady (Dubai, UAE/Nord Anglia International School), Jayden Barragan (New Rochelle, N.Y./New Rochelle) and Elijah DeBooth (West Lawn, Pa./Wilson). Alex Mocarski (Stratford, Conn./Stratford), Kyle Reuter (York, Pa./Dallastown Area) and Christian Zavala (Kennett Square, Pa./Kennett) were all second team honorees, while Tyrese Sanchez (Bethel, Pa./Tulpehocken) earned honorable mention laurels.

Manful earned his second player of the year award after leading the PSUAC in scoring for the second-straight year. He tallied 26 goals, 10 more than his closest competitor, and 60 total points, while playing in all 22 matches.

Manful scored in eight of 10 matches against PSUAC competition, totaling 17 goals in those games. He netted four goals in wins over Central Penn and Christendom and scored in seven-straight games to end the regular season.

Manful also tied for third in the conference with eight assists, while leading the league with 87 shots.

Now a three-time All-PSUAC defender, Kelly played nearly every minute of Brandywine's 22 matches this fall, leading a Brandywine back line that produced a conference-leading 17 shutouts. No team other than Brandywine recorded more than six clean sheets. Brandywine has posted 10-straight shutout victories and the Lions' defense has yielded just one in 13 matches since Oct. 1.

Kelly also chipped in offensively, matching his career high with nine goals, while also providing five assists. Eight of his nine goals came in PSUAC matches, including a three-goal game against Mont Alto. He also tallied a goal and three assists versus Penn State Scranton.

Abdelhady was the second-leading scorer among freshmen and tied for fifth overall in the league in scoring with 26 total points. He tallied 11 goals, good for second on the team, while adding four assists. Abdelhady notched the first three goals of his career in a victory over York on Sept. 27, one of three multi-goal efforts in 20 matches. He scored goals in five-straight games from Sept. 27-Oct. 7 and had an assist in three consecutive matches from Oct. 14-20.

Barragan, who earned his second consecutive First Team All-PSUAC award,  finished second on the team and in the conference with 10 assists despite playing just 14 matches. After returning from injury, Barragan made an immediate impact, recording two assists during his first match, a 2-2 draw at New Kensington. He notched at least one helper in seven of 14 matches, including a season-high three at Hazleton on Oct. 18. Barragan also collected six goals, one of which was the championship-winning goal Tuesday night, finishing eighth in the league in scoring with 22 points.

DeBooth was named the top goalkeeper in the league after starting the first 13 matches for the Lions. He posted a record of 8-3-2, while collected three shutouts, good for third in the conference. DeBooth made 54 saves and posted a 1.03 goals-against average, which also ranked third among conference keepers. He made four or more saves in eight matches, topped by a nine-stop performance at Albright on Sept. 23.

Mocarski was one of two players to start all 22 matches this fall. He aided Brandywine's top-ranked defense that allowed just two goals in 10 conference matches and a league-low 12 goals overall. Mocarski also chipped in offensively with a pair of goals, scoring in victories over Christendom and Greater Allegheny.

Reuter garnered his second-straight all-conference selection. He owns a PSUAC-high 11 assists and 15 total points during 19 games this fall. Reuter tallied a helper in seven of Brandywine's 22 matches and had three games with two or more assists, all Brandywine victories. He assisted on three goals during Brandywine's regular-season finale, a 9-0 victory at Mont Alto. He added a pair of goals with both coming against PSUAC foes.

Zavala made 19 appearances and 18 starts in the midfield to earn the second all-conference selection of his career. He amassed eight points on one goal and six assists. His six assists ranked fourth on the team and tied for seventh in the PSUAC. Zavala recorded three assists in a win over Gallaudet on Oct. 4 and finished the regular season with a three-game point streak.

Sanchez played in 17 matches, starting 13, during his first season with the Lions. He collected four goals and eight total points. Sanchez scored twice in a win over York on Sept. 27 and recorded Brandywine's first marker in a 6-0 PSUAC Tournament semifinal victory over Greater Allegheny on Saturday.

Brandywine captured its seventh-straight conference championship and awaits its USCAA seeding, which will be announced Wednesday evening.
