PITTSBURGH, Pa. – The Penn State Brandywine men's soccer team saw its 2023 conclude following a 2-0 defeat against Berkeley (N.J.) on Sunday afternoon during the final match of pool play at the United States Collegiate Athletic Association Tournament.
Brandywine's 14-match winning streak came to an end as Berkeley scored a goal in each half to reach the USCAA National Championship.
The Knights' marker during the 43rd minute was the first the Lions had yielded since Oct. 7 following 11 consecutive shutouts. Berkeley added an insurance tally at the 72:56 mark as Brandywine allowed two goals for just the fourth time this fall in 24 matches.
The Lions recorded five shots on goal, including two from Raymond Kelly (Middletown, Del./Middletown). Brandywine goalkeeper Elijah DeBooth (West Lawn, Pa./Wilson) played all 90 minutes in his first match since Oct. 11. DeBooth stopped eight shots, one off his season-high.
Brandywine finished its season with a record of 18-4-2 after winning its seventh-straight Penn State University Athletic Conference championship. The Lions have won at least 18 matches in three-straight years and own 73 total victories in four seasons under Head Coach Tom Greenawalt.
