Brandywine Claims PSUAC Regular-Season Title With 6-0 Shutout

SCHUYLKILL HAVEN, Pa. -- Penn State Brandywine claimed first place in Penn State University Athletic Conference women's soccer and will be the top seed for the conference tournament when it gets underway on Oct. 29 after completing a 6-0 victory over Penn State Schuylkill on Thursday.

Brandywine (11-1, 9-0 PSUAC), which has now handed second-place Schuylkill each of its two losses this season by 6-0 scores, has won 10 games in a row entering the league tournament. The Lions outscored conference foes 59-4 in nine games this fall.

Rachel Weir (Neptune City, N.J./Red Bank Regional) and Brooke Muhlbaier (Millville, N.J./Millville) each scored twice, while Angelina Maroulis (Brookhaven, Pa./Sun Valley) and Brianna Banks (Philadelphia, Pa./Parkway Center) also found the back of the net.

Maroulis' first goal of the year made the score 1-0 12 minutes into the match. Muhlbaier doubled the lead in the 27th minute and Weir and Banks both followed with scores to make it a 4-0 Lion lead after 45 minutes.

Muhlbaier's goal at the 50:00 mark extended the edge to five and Weir finished off the scoring 14 minutes later.

Brandywine goalkeeper Emily Bush (Bayville, N.J./Central Regional), now tied for the national lead with seven shutouts, needed to stop just one shot in net. The Lions limited Schuylkill to just three shots overall, while attempting 23 of their own.

Brandywine will host No. 4 seed Penn State Mont Alto in a PSUAC semifinal at Maple Zone on Oct. 29 at 1:00 pm. The Lions own victories by scores of 5-1 and 5-0 against Mont Alto already this fall.
