READING, Pennsylvania – Penn State Berks handed the Penn State Brandywine volleyball team its first loss of the season, sweeping the Lions by set scores of 25-16, 25-23, 25-16.
Seniors Kirsten Jerla (Springfield, Pa./Notre Dame) and Molly Nichols (Lenni, Pa./Penncrest) tied for the team lead with five kills each, while Miranda Biondi (Newtown Square, Pa./Marple Newtown) recorded 17 assists and registered one of Brandywine's three aces.
Defensively, Kim Russo (West Chester, Pa./West Chester East) topped Brandywine with 17 digs and Nikki Poissant (Aston, Pa./Cardinal O'Hara) tallied 13, while Emily Battista (Broomall, Pa./Marple Newtown) added nine.
Brandywine collected eight blocks, including three from Nicole Costa (Lansdowne, Pa./Upper Darby) and two each from Nichols and Halee Kusner (Aston, Pa./Sun Valley).
Berks received 11 kills from Cassidy Schultz and 21 digs from Megan DeAbreu.
Brandywine (2-1) looks to bounce back on Wednesday when it opens PSUAC play at home against Penn State York (7:30 pm).
