Greyhounds Top Brandywine In Four Sets

MEDIA, Pennsylvania -- Moravian received 14 kills and four blocks from Taylor Kornmann and knocked off the Penn State Brandywine volleyball team 3-1 (25-16, 25-19, 23-25, 25-8) on Thursday night at the Brandywine Athletic Center.

Brandywine led the first set 12-11, but Moravian reeled off 10 of the next 11 points to take control and finished off the Lions follwoing Mary Zacher's kill.

The Lions battled back from a six-point hole, cutting the deficit to just two when Becca Civera (Boothwyn, Pa./Chichester) delivered a kill off a feed from Miranda Biondi (Newtown Square, Pa./Marple Newtown); however, Moravian answered with the final five points of set No. 2, taking a 2-0 lead.

The Greyhounds took an early lead in set No. 3, but a block and two kills from Halee Kusner (Aston, Pa./Sun Valley) tied the score. Kim Russo's (West Chester, Pa./West Chester East) ace put Brandywine in front for good as the Lions extended the match with a 25-23 victory.

Brandywine's comeback attempt was halted as Moravian jumped out to a 7-0 lead  during the fourth set and never looked back, clinching the triumph.

The Lions received 10 kills and eight digs from Nikki Poissant (Aston, Pa./Cardinal O'Hara), while Biondi registered 23 assists and five aces. Kusner added six kills, while Nicole Costa (Lansdowne, Pa./Upper Darby) and Molly Nichols (Lenni, Pa./Penncrest) both tallied four.

Russo collected six digs and Dee Lovell (Avondale, Pa./Kennett) amassed seven digs.

Brandywine (7-3) closes out its three-game homestand Saturday afternoon at 2:00 pm versus Penn State Mont Alto.
