Biondi, Russo Reach Milestones On Senior Day; Lions Complete Perfect PSUAC Slate

MEDIA, Pa. -- Miranda Biondi (Newtown Square, Pa./Marple Newtown) and Kim Russo (West Chester, Pa./West Chester East) both reached personal milestones during the final home match of their careers as the Penn State Brandywine volleyball team honored its six seniors with a pair of 3-0 victories on Sunday afternoon. Brandywine completed its regular season with a 16-0 conference record and did not drop a single set in any of its 16 league matches.

Biondi became the first player in Brandywine history to amass 2,000 career assists during the Lions' 3-0 triumph over Penn State Greater Allegheny to open the day. She finished the pair of matches with 48 helpers, bringing her career total to 2,036. Biondi also added six aces, six digs and three blocks. Of all active players at any collegiate level, Biondi owns the highest number of aces with 321.

Russo surpassed the 1,000-dig mark during the final set of her last home match, a 3-0 victory over Penn State Beaver. She totaled 14 digs on the afternoon, putting her career total at 1,001, while also adding six aces.

Brandywine will be the top seed in next week's PSUAC Tournament at Rec Hall in State College. The Lions, who won the regular-season title for the first time, received a bye through the quarterfinals and will face an opponent still to be determined Saturday afternoon at 1:00 pm. The title match will be Sunday at 1:00 pm at Penn State's Rec Hall.

Halee Kusner (Aston, Pa./Sun Valley) topped all players with 15 kills in two matches, while Nikki Poissant (Aston, Pa./Cardinal O'Hara) tallied 15 digs and senior Kelsi Wiest (Aston, Pa./Sun Valley) registered 12 digs.

Senior Kirsten Jerla (Springfield, Pa./Notre Dame) added eight kills and five digs, while classmate Molly Nichols (Lenni, Pa./Penncrest) collected 10 kills and two blocks. Senior Nicole Costa (Lansdowne, Pa./Upper Darby) registered five blocks, including four against Beaver, and tallied eight kills.

Brandywine's senior class has totaled 76 victories over the past four seasons and will be competing in the PSUAC Tournament semifinals for the fourth-straight year.
