PSUAC Names Miranda Biondi As John S. Egli Scholar Athlete Of The Year
UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Penn State Brandywine senior volleyball player Miranda Biondi (Newtown Square, Pa./Marple Newtown) received the John S. Egli Award from the Penn State University Athletic Conference on Friday as the conference's top female scholar athlete during the 2015-16 academic year.
Biondi is the eighth female and overall 11th student-athlete from Brandywine to receive the award during its 35-year history.
The award, named in honor of John S. Egli, a former Penn State student-athlete, professor and coach who is responsible for bringing varsity athletic programs to the commonwealth campuses, has annually been awarded to the top male and female student-athletes in the PSUAC since 1982. To be considered for the award, a student-athlete must have had a distinguished athletic career, own a minimum grade point average of 3.0, be active in additional campus activities and exemplify high morals, leadership and outstanding character.
The 2016 USCAA Volleyball Student-Athlete of the Year, Brandywine's first such honoree in any sport, Biondi graduated from Penn State this spring with a degree in human development and family studies.
Biondi concluded her four-year, standout volleyball career in the fall after leading the Lions to their first-ever PSUAC championship and berth in the USCAA Tournament. A four-time first team all-conference selection, Biondi was named 2015 PSUAC Player of the Year and became the first all-American in program history when she was awarded second team laurels.
Biondi, who was a six-time PSUAC Setter of the Week this fall, tops the Brandywine record books in career aces (327) and assists (2,169).
In 2014, Biondi became Brandywine's first female student-athlete to earn Capital One/CoSIDA Academic All-District recognition when she was named to the first team. She also earned academic all-area accolades from the Philadelphia Inquirer and was a USCAA National Academic Team honoree in 2015, while also earning four PSUAC All-Academic Team awards.
