Brandywine Remains Unbeaten In PSUAC With Sweep Of Mont Alto

MEDIA, Pennsylvania – Penn State Brandywine handed Penn State Mont Alto its first PSUAC loss, while remaining unbeaten in the league after posting a 3-0 (25-22, 25-20, 25-14) sweep on Saturday.

Brandywine (8-3, 6-0 PSUAC) trailed the first set 13-11, but collected seven of the next 10 points, topped off by Halee Kusner's (Aston, Pa./Sun Valley) kill to take an 18-16 lead. Two-straight kills and a block from Kusner ended the set in Brandywine's favor.

The Lions scored the first four points of set No. 2, but Mont Alto rallied to knot the score on three occasions. With the score tied 16-16, Brandywine produced the next five, including three kills by Kusner, while Molly Nichols (Lenni, Pa./Penncrest) tacked on two kills to help Brandywine take a 2-0 lead.

Brandywine led by just two midway through the final set, but took control with a 10-2 run. Nicole Costa (Lansdowne, Pa./Upper Darby) and Kirsten Jerla (Springfield, Pa./Notre Dame) both registered a pair of kills and Nichols added an ace to fuel the Brandywine surge.

Costa, Kusner and Nikki Poissant (Aston, Pa./Cardinal O'Hara) all tallied a match-high eight kills. Poissant added three aces, while Kelsi Wiest (Aston, Pa./Sun Valley) recorded two and Miranda Biondi (Newtown Square, Pa./Marple Newtown) collected 26 assists.

Wiest topped all players with 15 digs, while Poissant totaled nine and Biondi had six. Costa had five of Brandywine's nine blocks and Kusner added a pair.

Brandywine visits Penn State Schuylkill on Wednesday evening for a pair of matches beginning at 5:00 pm.
