Brandywine Eases Past York To Open Conference Slate

MEDIA, Pennsylvania -- Penn State Brandywine registered 28 aces and rolled to a three-set victory (25-7, 25-15, 25-16) over Penn State York during its first PSUAC volleyball match of the season on Wednesday night.

Brandywine used 28 aces, including 10 from Nikki Poissant (Aston, Pa./Cardinal O'Hara) and seven by Miranda Biondi (Newtown Square, Pa./Marple Newtown), to earn the victory. Biondi added 11 assists, while Sullivan Stark (Middletown, Del./William Penn) dished out eight helpers.

The Lions (3-1, 1-0 PSUAC) jumped out to a 16-2 lead during the first set following a kill from Kirsten Jerla (Springfield, Pa./Notre Dame) and easily took the set 25-7.

York closed within 18-12 during the second set before Becca Civera's (Boothwyn, Pa./Chichester) kill began a string of four-straight points for Brandywine. Nicolette Napoleon (Springfield, Pa./Penn Charter) added another kill for the Lions, who closed out the set, 25-15.

Brandywine led throughout the final frame as Biondi and Poissant both tallied three aces and Napoleon aided in closing out the victory with a pair of aces.

Molly Nichols (Lenni, Pa./Penncrest) led all player with six kills, while Civera and Nicole Costa (Lansdowne, Pa./Upper Darby) both added four. Poissant and Civera both collected four digs.

Brandywine begins a four-match weekend on Saturday with a pair of contests at Penn State Wilkes Barre against the hosts (2:00 pm) and Penn State Scranton (4:00 pm).
