Brandywine Reaches PSUAC Championship With 4-0 Semifinal Victory

MEDIA, Pa. -- Second-seeded Penn State Brandywine took the lead late in the first half and poured it on during the final 45 minutes as the Lions notched a 4-0 Penn State University Athletic Conference women's soccer semifinal triumph over third-seeded Penn State Schuylkill Saturday afternoon.

Brandywine will play in the championship match for the sixth time in the seven-season history of the program. The Lions captured four-straight PSUAC titles from 2016-19.

Leyla Vasquez (West Chester, Pa./West Chester East) gave the Lions the lead late in the first half with her third goal of the season. Schuylkill was called for a hand ball just outside the box and Vasquez ripped the ensuing free kick into the top corner of the net to hand Brandywine a 1-0 edge with 3:23 to go in the opening period.

Zoey Lineman (West Deptford, N.J./GCIT) tallied a pair of second-half goals, including one that doubled the margin to 2-0. Gabby DiBernardino (Aston, Pa./Sun Valley) lofted a cross that Lineman headed just inside the post at the 48:49 mark.

Vasquez assisted on Jess James' (Yardley, Pa./Pennsbury) marker during the 64th minute and the Lions put the game away when James found Lineman for the fourth goal with less than 18 minutes to play.

Brandywine, which won its sixth-straight game, received five saves from Demareste Dorvilma (Carteret, N.J./Carteret). Dorvilma's top stop came with under 15 minutes to play as she dove to knock aside an attempt from Brittany Bartasavage and keep the clean sheet.

Brandywine (8-6) will play the winner of Saturday's second semifinal between Penn State Mont Alto and Penn State Beaver on Wednesday at Panzer Stadium in State College. The championship match is slated to kick off at noon.
