Five Brandywine Women’s Soccer Players Land All-PSUAC Awards

MEDIA, Pa. -- A total of five Penn State Brandywine women's soccer players were lauded as all-conference performers when the Penn State University Athletic Conference released its end-of-year awards on Monday.

Earning first team accolades were Gia Cetroni (Coatesville, Pa./Downingtown West), Jess James (Yardley, Pa./Pennsbury) and Zoey Lineman (West Deptford, N.J./GCIT), while Caitlin Kaiser (Hackettstown, N.J./Hackettstown) and Hope Priemon (Springfield, Pa./Springfield) were honorable mention selections.

Cetroni set career highs with eight goals, six assists and 22 points, while starting all 14 matches for the Lions this fall. She paced the team in total points and ranks second in the conference in both points and assists.

Cetroni tallied two goals and three assists for a career-high seven points in a non-conference win at Valley Forge and added a six-point game in October against Penn State Schuylkill. In that match against Schuylkill, Cetroni scored the go-ahead goal in the 85th minute to help Brandywine secure the No. 2 seed in the PSUAC Tournament.

In six matches against PSUAC opponents, Cetroni tallied four goals and three assists.

James, who received her second consecutive first team nod, produced seven goals and one assist. She made 12 appearances, all starts, in the Brandywine midfield.

Also an all-conference infielder on the Brandywine softball team, James collected three goals in a home victory over Valley Forge and scored both goals in a 2-0 victory over Penn State Hazleton. She added a goal and an assist during Brandywine's PSUAC semifinal win over Schuylkill on Saturday.

Lineman topped the team in scoring with nine goals and matched Priemon for second on the team in total scoring by tallying 20 points. She played in all 14 matches, starting 11.

In Brandywine's second match of the year, Lineman recorded her first three collegiate goals in a win at Valley Forge, the first of three multi-goal performances on the year. Her final two came against PSUAC competition, including a two-goal effort in the semfinals against Schuylkill.

Kaiser was one of four players to start every match this season for the Lions, anchoring Brandywine's back line as a center back. She aided the Lions' defense in leading the conference in shutouts as the team kept a clean sheet in half of its matches this fall.

Five of Brandywine's seven shutouts came during the final month of the season, four against PSUAC opposition, as Brandywine currently owns a six-match winning streak.

Kaiser also received the John Fritz Sportsmanship Award. Named after former PSUAC Commissioner John Fritz, the sportsmanship award is given to one player from each team in the league who best displays the core values of the league and sportsmanship to teammates and opponents throughout the season.

Priemon made 14 starts in the midfield, tying for second on the team in points with 20 and assists at six. She also matched James for third in goal scoring with seven markers.

Priemon recorded at least one point during Brandywine's final six regular-season matches. During that time, she tallied a two-assist effort in a win over Schuylkill and three-point games against Penn State Scranton and Bucks County.

Brandywine (8-6) plays for the PSUAC Championship Wednesday afternoon against Penn State Mont Alto. The game is slated to start at 12:00 PM at Panzer Stadium in State College.
