Lions Cruise To 10-1 Victory Over Penn State Scranton

MEDIA, Pennsylvania -- Penn State Brandywine jumped out to a 7-0 lead during the first half and never looked back during a 10-1 Pennsylvania State University Athletic Conference men's soccer victory over Penn State Scranton on Thursday afternoon.

Sophomores Manny Weldemicael (Philadelphia, Pa./Wyoming Park) and Bill Walleekendeh (Chester, Pa./Chester) both netted three goals to lead the Lions' (6-6, 5-0) offense.

Weldemicael, who also dished out one assist, opened the scoring at the 7:00 minute mark when he blasted a free kick past Scranton net minder Zach Hiller. He sent corner kick to Patrick Lutes (Drexel Hill, Pa./Monsignor Bonner), who headed the ball into the back of the net, for a two-goal Brandywine lead just nine minutes later.

Senior Brad Jule (Chadds Ford, Pa./Salesianum) extended the Lions' edge to three before Weldemicael, Walleekendeh and junior Lewis Cumberland (Media, Pa./Penncrest) each scored during span of 1:21 as Brandywine's lead ballooned to six. Walleekendeh added his second goal of the half just before halftime, giving the Lions a 7-0 advantage after 45 minutes.

Walleekendeh and Weldemicael completed their hat tricks during the early portion of the second stanza, while junior Nabieu Sesay (Sharon Hill, Pa./Academy Park) capped off the scoring with a goal during the 76th minute.

Senior Nick Previti (Aldan, Pa./Monsignor Bonner) and freshman William Scott-Norris (Wilmington, Del./Mt. Pleasant) split time in net for Brandywine. Previti stopped both shots he faced during the opening half, while Scott-Norris made one second-half save.

The Lions collected 20 shots on goal and attempted 13 corner kicks.

Hiller made eight stops in net for Scranton and Ahmet Ahmetbeg ended Brandywine's shutout bid by netting a goal with 15 seconds remaining in regulation.

Brandywine travels to Penn State Hazelton on Saturday with first kick set for 2:00 pm.
