Berkeley Uses Late Goal To Edge Brandywine

MEDIA, Pennsylvania -- Berkeley scored the go-ahead goal in the 79th minute and held on for a 2-1 victory over the Penn State Brandywine men's soccer team on Wednesday afternoon.

Marcelo Pizzaro collected a loose ball and beat Lions' freshman goalkeeper Patrick O'Neill (Morton, Pa./Ridley) with a low shot to his right, putting the Knights in front with 11 minutes to play in regulation. Brandywine had a pair of late chances, but was unable to convert the equalizer.

After Berkeley grabbed a 1-0 halftime lead, sophomore Nicholas Abhulimen (Boothwyn, Pa./Chichester) knotted the game at 1-1 with his second goal of the season. He received a feed from freshman Patrick Lutes (Drexel Hill, Pa./Monsignor Bonner) and, after a scramble in the box, beat Berkeley goalkeeper Christian Vedreiro to tie the score.

Brandywine recorded six shots on goal, while O'Neill made eight saves. Vedreiro stopped five shots for the Knights.

The Lions (6-7, 5-0 PSUAC) look to bounce back Friday afternoon at Penn State Hazleton (4:00 pm).
