Brandywine Crowned PSUAC Champion For Second-Straight Year

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Penn State Brandywine claimed its second consecutive Pennsylvania State University Athletic Conference men's soccer championship as it blanked Penn State York 1-0 in a tightly-contested match on Wednesday night at University Park.

Brandywine, which earned its 14th-straight win against PSUAC competition dating back to last season, became the second varsity team in school history to repeat as league champions.

With the win, the Lions earned the conference's automatic bid to the USCAA National Tournament in Charleston, W. Va. Brandywine will face seventh-seeded Maine-Machias in the opening round at 11:00 am on Wednesday.  The Lions will make their second-straight appearance at the national level under the direction of Head Coach Scott Spangler.

Junior Nabieu Sesay (Sharon Hill, Pa./Academy Park) scored the match's lone goal during the 43rd minute. After York goalkeeper Paul Ambrose stopped a shot off the foot of senior Frenc Baro (Springfield, Pa./Springfield), Sesay collected the rebound and slid a shot into the right corner of the cage to give the Lions the lead.

Just over one minute later, York threatened to score with a chance in the box, but Brandywine freshman goalkeeper Patrick O'Neill (Morton, Pa./Ridley) stopped a pair of shots from Adam Beck.

Sesay had a pair of opportunities to extend the Brandywine lead during the second half, including during the 67th minute when his shot from left of the cage sailed wide. York was limited to just a pair of shots in the final 45 minutes, and O'Neill was up to the test, holding York off the scoreboard.

O'Neill stopped all four shots he faced, posting Brandywine's first shutout of the season, while earning his third victory of the season.

Brandywine outshot York 7-4 and held a 6-3 advantage in corner kicks.
