Lions Downed By Cleary In Season Finale

CHARLESTON, West Virginia -- The 10th-seeded Penn State Brandywine men's soccer team was defeated 3-0 by eighth-seeded Cleary University (Mich.) in a USCAA Tournament consolation match Thursday morning at Schoenbaum Stadium during the team's season finale.

The Lions and Cougars traded shots during the early portion of the game before Cleary got on the scoreboard at the 36:28 mark with a goal from Santiago Almada. Cleary added a pair of insurance goals during the first six minutes of the second half, both provided by Garrett Abbey.

Down three goals, the Lions continued to fight with eight shots and four corner kicks during the final 45 minutes, but were unable to muster a goal. Cleary goalkeeper Kyle Gill stopped all four shots he faced in net.

Brandywine tallied 11 shots, led by three each from juniors Nabieu Sesay (Sharon Hill, Pa./Academy Park) and Bill Walleekdendeh (Chester, Pa./Chester). Walleekendeh earned all-American honorable mention accolades from the USCAA earlier in the week.

Freshman Patrick O'Neill (Morton, Pa./Ridley) made three saves during the first half, while classmate William Scott-Norris (Wilmington, Del./Mt. Pleasant) blocked five shots in relief of O'Neill.

Brandywine closed out the season with a 13-9 record after winning the PSUAC Tournament for the second consecutive year.
