Lions Drop Florida Doubleheader

CLERMONT, Fla. -- The Penn State Brandywine softball team was defeated by Susquehanna and Lakeland (Wisc.) on Monday afternoon during its third day of games in Clermont, Fla. Susquehanna took a 10-1 decision, while Lakeland posted a 10-2 victory over the Lions.

The Crusaders jumped on Brandywine early, scoring seven runs over the first two innings. Susquehanna pitcher Jessica Juhlin limited the Lions to just one hit over six innings and struck out six.

Brandywine's lone run came during the first frame when Robyn Gannon (Lansdowne, Pa./Archbishop Prendergast) singled in Arianna Segich (Ocean City, N.J./Ocean City) after Segich had reached on an error. Brandywine pitcher Grace DeRosa (Glenside, Pa./Cheltenham) fanned five Crusaders in the loss.

The Lions again fell behind early in game two against Lakeland as the Muskies received a three-run, first-inning home run from Rosa Gonzalez.

Run-scoring singles from Katy Steffen (Downingtown, Pa./Downingtown West) and Gannon in the second and third innings, respectively, cut the deficit to just one; however, Lakeland scored the final seven scores to run away from Brandywine.

The Lions (0-6) play their final games of Spring Break on Wednesday afternoon against Juniata and Wesley.
