Softball Eases Past New Kensington

MEDIA, Pa. -- Penn State Brandywine put 26 runs on the scoreboard and rolled to a pair of victories over Penn State New Kensington on Saturday afternoon, winning by scores of 9-3 and 17-3.

Brandywine held a two-run lead and Grace DeRosa (Glenside, Pa./Cheltenham) held a perfect game through three innings of game one, but New Kensington scored three times on four hits in the fourth to grab a 3-2 lead.

However, Brandywine answered with RBI singles from Katie DeStefano (Kennett Square, Pa./Kennett), Julie Foeldes (Kendall Park, N.J./Sotuh Brunswick) and Arianna Segich (Ocean City, N.J./Ocean City) to retake the lead in the fifth.

One inning later, the Lions padded their lead as Foeldes knocked in another run with a base hit and Jen Patterson (Springfield, Pa./Springfield) added a two-run double.

Segich and Foeldes both produced three hits, while DeStefano and Ashlee Stritzinger (Wilmington, Del./Concord) each collected two hits. DeRosa evened her record at 6-6 after striking out a season-high nine batters in seven innings in the circle.

New Kensington scored in the top of the first inning of game two, but Segich stole home to quickly tie the score in the bottom of the frame.

An RBI single from Katy Steffen (Downingtown, Pa./Downingtown West) and three-straight, bases-loaded walks helped put five runs on the board for Brandywine in the second inning.

The Lions tacked on four more runs in the third behind an inside-the-park grand slam from Segich, her fourth home run of the season.

Robyn Gannon (Lansdowne, Pa./Archbishop Prendergast) and Julie Allman (Broomall, Pa./Marple Newtown) both plated two with singles in the fourth and Foeldes and Steffen each added run-scoring hits as Brandywine pulled away.

Segich scored three times in game two, while Maddie Malfara (Ardsley, Pa./Abington) and Steffen both collected two hits. Malfara scored three runs and Steffen crossed home twice. Olivia Encarnacion (Glenolden, Pa./Interboro) upped her record to 8-5 after striking out five and allowing three earned runs in five innings.

Brandywine (16-16, 9-1 PSUAC) hosts Penn State Fayette Sunday afternoon at 2:00 pm.
