DeRosa, Steffen Earn USCAA Weekly Awards

MEDIA, Pennsylvania -- Penn State Brandywine sophomore Katy Steffen (Downingtown, Pa./Downingtown West) and freshman Grace DeRosa (Glenside, Pa./Cheltenham) were named national players of the week by the USCAA as Steffen claimed hitter of the week and DeRosa was selected as the pitcher of the week.

Steffen went 2-for-3 at the plate, hit her second home run of the season, a three-run shot, and scored three times, while DeRosa was the winning pitcher in Brandywine's 15-3 victory at Penn State Scranton on Friday during the Lions' lone game of the week. With the win, Brandywine clinched the PSUAC regular season title for the second-straight season and will be seeded No. 1 when the PSUAC Tournament begins this Saturday at Penn State Hazleton.

Steffen's home run was the 10th of her career and she also knocked in three runs for the third consecutive game, upping her season total to 26. She is batting .329 this spring with 25 hits, including five for extra bases.

DeRosa was the winning pitcher for the seventh time this year after limiting Scranton to three runs, while striking out five over five innings of work. She has struck out 54 batters during 71 2/3 innings in the circle and is 4-0 with a 1.88 earned run average in four starts against PSUAC competition.

Brandywine will play either Penn State Scranton or Penn State Mont Alto in the second round of the PSUAC Tournament Saturday night at 8:00 pm.
