Gannon Leads Three Softball All-Americans

MEDIA, Pa. – Sophomore shortstop Robyn Gannon (Lansdowne, Pa./Archbishop Prendergast) was selected as a First Team All-American by the United States Collegiate Athletic Association earlier this week, leading three Penn State Brandywine softball players selected as all-Americans.

Joining Gannon as honorees were junior pitcher Olivia Encarnacion (Glenolden, Pa./Interboro) and freshman catcher Steph Harvey (Berlin, N.J./Eastern Regional), who were both honorable mention selections.

Gannon, who was also named First Team All-PSUAC, tied for the team lead in batting average (.395) and tied for ninth nationally with 49 hits this spring. She scored 37 runs, tied for sixth in the USCAA, and matched Harvey with 31 runs batted in, finishing tied for 13th nationally.

Gannon produced hits during 31 of Brandywine's 42 games, including 13 multi-hit performances. She tallied 11 extra-base hits with nine doubles and a pair of triples, while posting a .457 on-base percentage. In 74 career games at Brandywine, Gannon owns 91 hits.

Encarnacion earned her third all-American award of the year after also claiming honorable mention honors in soccer and basketball, the first student-athlete from Brandywine to earn accolades in multiple sports during the same academic year.

The 2016 PSUAC Pitcher of the Year and First Team All-PSUAC honoree owned a record of 10-7 with one save and a 3.62 earned run average in 21 appearances in the circle. She tossed four complete game shutouts, including the second no-hitter in Brandywine history on April 13 against Valley Forge.

Harvey, a First Team All-PSUAC catcher, finished the year second nationally with 29 walks and also ranked in the top 10 in the USCAA in on-base percentage (.534 – 7th) and doubles (11 – 9th). In 41 games, she tallied a .384 batting average, the third-highest mark on the team.

Harvey also knocked in 31 runs, while crossing home 29 times and producing 13 multi-hit games.

Brandywine finished the season with a record of 25-18 and won its second consecutive PSUAC championship. The Lions placed fourth at the USCAA World Series, the best finish by a team in any sport from Brandywine at a national tournament.
