Lions Play Gwynedd Mercy To 1-1 Draw

GWYNEDD VALLEY, Pa. -- Penn State Brandywine battled through the rain and cool temperatures to earn a road draw at Gwynedd Mercy on Friday afternoon as the teams tied 1-1 after 110 minutes of play.

Juan Guerrero (Kennett Square, Pa./Kennett) stopped two of the three shots he faced, while playing all 110 minutes in net. His only blemish came in the 26th minute when Tyler Bascone headed in a long free kick to give the home-standing Griffins a 1-0 lead.

Axel Ayllon-Ortiz (Kennett Square, Pa./Kennett) found the equalizer for the Lions during the 62nd minute. After he was hauled down in the box, Ayllon-Ortiz drilled a penalty kick into the back of the net to knot the score at 1-1.

After tying the score, Brandywine put three more shots on target, all off the foot of Joey Cairy (Aston, Pa./Sun Valley), but Gwynedd keeper Tyler Blair stopped all three.

Both Blair and Guerrero had to turn away one shot during the 20 minutes of extra time to preserve the tie score.

Brandywine (1-1-1) has a quick turnaround as the Lions host Bryant & Stratton-Albany Saturday afternoon at 1:00 pm.
