James Erupts For Five Goals; Brandywine Doubles Up Schuylkill

SCHUYLKILL HAVEN, Pa. – Jess James (Yardley, Pa./Pennsbury) poured in five goals as the Penn State Brandywine women's soccer team knocked off Penn State Schuylkill 6-3 on Wednesday afternoon.

James scored four times during the match's first 36 minutes and finished her day one shy of a Brandywine single-game scoring record. She now owns a PSUAC-leading nine goals this fall.

James set the Lions up with their first goal, which came just 2:14 into the match. Her shot was stopped by Schuylkill goalkeeper Victoria Grimm, but Gia Cetroni (Coatesville, Pa./Downingtown West) found the rebound and scored for a 1-0 Brandywine lead.

Five minutes later, James notched her first goal of the afternoon, tapping in a Zoey Lineman (West Deptford, N.J./GCIT) crossing feed. She made the score 3-0 at the 13:49 mark, potting Jaylin Berrios' (Lancaster, Pa./McCaskey) free kick that came from just outside the box.

Schuylkill got a goal back thanks to a penalty kick, but James added two markers during a span of 20 seconds to give the Lions a 5-1 edge with 9:24 to play in the first half.

The hosts struck for a pair of goals to get within 5-3 at intermission, but Brandywine's defense shut down the Schuylkill offense during the second half, allowing just one shot attempt over the final 45 minutes. James added an insurance tally at the 76:31 mark.

Demareste Dorvilma (Carteret, N.J./Carteret) stopped seven shots, all during the first half, to earn the win in net for the Lions. James accounted for five of Brandywine's 11 shots on goal.

Brandywine (6-4-1, 5-1 PSUAC) returns home for Senior Day on Saturday when the Lions host Penn State Beaver at 1:00 PM.
