Four From Brandywine Baseball Receive All-PSUAC Honors

MEDIA, Pa. -- Cam Baughman (Oxford, Pa./Oxford), Tyler Brooks (Oxford, Pa./Oxford), Connor Thompson (Finksburg, Md./Westminster) and Nick Wright (Aston, Pa./Sun Valley) represented Penn State Brandywine on the All-Penn State University Athletic Conference baseball teams announced by the league on Thursday. Baughman and Brooks were both named First Team All-PSUAC outfielders, while Thompson and Wright received honorable mention laurels.

Baughman was the Lions' leading hitter and tied for third overall in the PSUAC with a .423 batting average. In 24 games this spring, Baughman tallied 30 hits in 71 at-bats with 10 going for extra bases. Baughman's .474 batting average in conference games was the highest mark among PSUAC East Division players. In addition to tallying five two-hit games, Baughman recorded a three-hit effort, opened the season with four hits against Rosemont, and went 5-for-5 in a win over Penn State Scranton on Apr. 5.

Hitting out of the leadoff spot in the lineup, Baughman also ranked second on the team with 23 runs scored. Six of his eight RBI came in conference matchups. He added 11 stolen bases in 13 attempts, including four swipes in a win over Rosemont on Apr. 8.

Brooks, a First Team All-PSUAC honoree for the second-straight year, hit safely in 11-of-12 conference games and recorded hits in 13-straight games to end the regular season.

Overall, Brooks batted .390 with a team-leading 39 hits, while also pacing the Lions in RBI (19), runs (27) and stolen bases (24). Brooks' hit total was good for fourth in the PSUAC, while topping the conference in stolen bases. He was tied for ninth in runs scored.

In 29 games in the outfield, Brooks produced 10 two-hit games, plus three-hit performances in wins over Penn State York and Penn State Schuylkill. Sixteen of his 19 RBI came against PSUAC competition.

Thompson owns a 6-4 record this spring and is the winningest hurler from the PSUAC's East Division. In 11 starts, Thompson topped all pitchers with 63.1 innings on the mound, while tossing two complete games and striking out 51.

Against PSUAC foes, Thompson went 5-0 with a 2.22 earned run average and 20 strikeouts in five starts. Ten of his strikeouts came in a victory over Penn State Scranton on April 1. Thompson was also the winning pitcher during Brandywine's PSUAC Tournament victory over Penn State York last Friday when he fanned four over five innings of work.

Wright, now a three-time all-conference selection, logged 37 hits in 94 at-bats for a .394 batting average. Last week, he became the 10th player in Brandywine history to record 100 career hits with an RBI single against Penn State York. Wright added 22 runs scored, 16 RBI and stole 12 bases for the Lions.

In 12 conference games, Wright hit safely 10 times. He was held without a hit just seven times in 30 games overall this spring. Five of his multi-hit performances have come during the final two weeks of the season, three of which came against Penn State Schuylkill.

In addition to all-conference awards, Brandywine sophomore Toby Skeans (Stevensville, Md./Kent Island) received the conference's John Fritz Sportsmanship Award. Named after former PSUAC Commissioner John Fritz, the sportsmanship award is given to one player from each team in the league who best displays the core values of the league and sportsmanship to teammates and opponents throughout the season. Skeans started 27 games at shortstop, recording 14 hits, 12 runs scored and 11 RBI.

Brandywine takes on Penn State DuBois in a winners' bracket game of the PSUAC Tournament Sunday at 1:45 PM in DuBois.
