Six Brandywine Spring Student-Athletes Named To USCAA National Academic Team

MEDIA, Pa. -- Six of Penn State Brandywine's spring sport student-athletes were recently named to the United States Collegiate Athletic Association National Academic Team.

Four members of the Brandywine baseball team were honored: Greg Adams (Glen Mills, Pa./Garnet Valley), Cam Baughman (Oxford, Pa./Oxford), Ricky Palmer (Levittown, Pa./Pennsbury) and Connor Thompson (Finksburg, Md./Westminster), while Farrell Everett (Wynnewood, Pa./Haverford) represented the softball team and Tanuj Gaikwad (Garnet Valley, Pa./Garnet Valley) was selected from the men's tennis squad.

The USCAA All-Academic Team is awarded to student-athletes who have accumulated a minimum GPA of 3.50 entering the spring semester and reached sophomore athletic and academic standing at their institution.

Adams is a biomedical engineering major who holds a 3.59 grade-point average following the completion of his sophomore year. A two-time conference pitcher of the week in 2022, Adams pitched in 12 games for the Lions, earning three victories.

Also a USCAA First Team All-American, Baughman hit .403 with 24 runs scored, 11 stolen bases and eight RBI this spring. He carries a 3.54 GPA as a business marketing major.

Palmer graduated earlier this month with an accounting degree after finishing his academic career with a 3.54 GPA. He posted a 1-1 record with 21 strikeouts during 13 appearances out of the Brandywine bullpen this season.

Thompson, an honorable mention all-conference pitcher, won a team-high six games and tossed a conference-leading 69.2 innings on the mound. He owns a 3.55 GPA with a major in electrical engineering.

Everett is a third-year member of the Brandywine softball team that captured its seventh-straight conference championship and finished fourth at the USCAA World Series. In 22 games, Everett batted .364 with 15 RBI. She is a communications major who holds a GPA of 3.52.

Gaikwad was also honored as an Arthur Ashe Jr. Sports Scholar this spring as he has earned a 3.72 GPA as a computer engineering and data sciences major. Gaikwad, who played at No. 1 singles and doubles for the Brandywine men's tennis team, posted a 9-1 singles record and won five doubles matches in 2022.

A total of 23 Brandywine student-athletes were honored with USCAA National Academic Team awards during the 2021-22 academic year.
