Defense Keys Lions’ Victory Over New Kensington

NEW KENSINGTON, Pa. – Penn State Brandywine yielded a season-low 51 points and forced 22 turnovers en route to defeating Penn State New Kensington 75-51 for its fifth-straight Penn State University Athletic Conference men's basketball victory on Saturday evening.

Brandywine limited New Kensington to 25 percent shooting from the field and a 3-of-26 mark from three-point range. The Lions shot 47 percent from the floor and netted 50 of their points in the paint.

Thirteen of New Kensington's miscues came during the opening 20 minutes as Brandywine ran out to a 36-25 edge at halftime.

After a slow start, Brandywine scored eight-straight points in the span of less than two minutes to open up a 24-17 lead.

With less than four minutes to go in the first half, Devon Jones (Philadelphia, Pa./Central) netted six consecutive points, giving Brandywine its first double-figure lead of the game. Bryce Barrouk (Glen Mills, Pa./Rustin) sank a layup just before the halftime buzzer, putting Brandywine in front by 11 points through 20 minutes.

The margin reached 20 points for the first time as Barrouk connected for a triple and a layup and Colin Hockenbrock (Wilmington, Del./St. Elizabeth) sank two free throws, making the count 56-35 at the 12:37 mark.

After Aubrey Feaster ended the run with a basket, Brandywine held New Kensington without a point for the next 5:16, while outscoring the hosts 12-0 during that span to put the game away.

Barrouk notched 20 points and 10 rebounds, both team highs, while Hockenbrock added 16 points, seven rebounds and three steals. Jones chipped in with 11 points and four boards and Johnta Dunson (Philadelphia, Pa./Freire Charter) produced eight points, five rebounds and three steals.
