Barrouk Named Player Of The Year; Brandywine Trio Earns Top Billing From PSUAC

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Senior Bryce Barrouk (Glen Mills, Pa./Rustin) was named Penn State University Athletic Conference Player of the Year and was joined on the All-PSUAC First Team by junior Colin Hockenbrock (Wilmington, Del./St. Elizabeth), while Head Coach Justin Dunbar-Stevens was selected as the PSUAC Men's Basketball Coach of the Year on Friday.

Brandywine's first men's basketball conference player of the year since 2011, Barrouk topped all PSUAC scorers by averaging 18.9 points per game. He produced 13 20-point games and registered a season-high 31 points during a November matchup with Penn State York.

Barrouk, who earned his third all-conference honor, was once again among the conference leaders in three-point shooting, knocking down over 42 percent of his shots from beyond the arc. He finished second in the league with 75 three-pointers, giving him 275 for his career, a program record. Barrouk also shot 86 percent from the free throw line, good for fifth in the conference.

In addition, Barrouk was the second-leading rebounder in the conference, averaging 11.1 per outing. He produced 19 double-doubles, 18 of which came against PSUAC foes, in 27 games this winter.

Barrouk recorded the final 28 points and 11 rebounds of his career Wednesday night in the PSUAC semifinals. In addition to be the most prolific three-point shooter in team history, he finished his 106-game career second all-time in scoring with 1,749 points and among Brandywine's leading rebounders at 825 boards.

Hockenbrock, who was the 2021-22 PSUAC Newcomer of the Year, recorded 14.6 points and 7.3 rebounds per game, while starting 26-of-27 contests this season.

A 51 percent shooter from the field, Hockenbrock produced four 20-point efforts, including a season-best 26 points at Moravian in November, and notched four double-doubles. Three of his 20-point nights came during conference games.

Hockenbrock finished the year ranked in the top 10 in the PSUAC in scoring, rebounding, steals and blocked shots. He paced the Lions with 50 steals and topped the team in blocked shots for the second-straight season with 19.

Hockenbrock will enter his third season at Brandywine in 2023-24 with 800 career points.

In his fifth year as head coach, Dunbar-Stevens led Brandywine to an overall record of 19-8, the Lions' highest win total since 2017-18. Brandywine's 19 victories tied for the fourth-highest total in the program's history, which dates back to 1968-69.

Brandywine claimed the PSUAC East Division during the regular season by finishing with a 17-2 league record. The Lions won 11-straight conference games From Dec. 2-Feb.8, the team's longest conference winning streak since 2005-06.

Dunbar-Stevens owns 57 victories through four seasons at Brandywine.

In addition, Johnta Dunson (Philadelphia, Pa./Freire Charter) received the John Fritz Sportsmanship Award. Named after former PSUAC Commissioner John Fritz, the sportsmanship award is given to one player from each team in the league who best displays the core values of the league and sportsmanship to teammates and opponents throughout the season. On the court, Dunson averaged 10.6 points, 4.6 rebounds and 2.9 assists per game.
