Bryce Barrouk Receives 2022-23 John S. Egli Scholar-Athlete Award

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Penn State Brandywine senior Bryce Barrouk (Glen Mills, Pa./Rustin) was selected as the recipient of the John S. Egli Scholar-Athlete award as the top male student-athlete in the Penn State University Athletic Conference during the 2022-23 academic year on Wednesday.

The award, named in honor of John S. Egli, a former Penn State student-athlete, professor and coach responsible for bringing varsity athletic programs to the commonwealth campuses, has annually been bestowed upon the top male and female student-athletes in the PSUAC since 1982 and is considered the highest honor awarded by the league. To be considered for the award, a student-athlete must have had a distinguished athletic career, own a minimum grade point average of 3.0, be active in additional campus activities and exemplify high morals, leadership and outstanding character.

Barrouk starred for the Brandywine basketball team for the last four seasons and is currently competing in his first campaign with the Brandywine baseball team.

Following the 2022-23 basketball season, Barrouk made history, becoming just the third Brandywine student-athlete to earn USCAA National Player of the Year honors. Also the PSUAC Player of the Year, Barrouk led the conference in scoring at 18.9 points per game and finished second in rebounding by pulling in 11.1 boards per outing.

Barrouk ranks second all-time in scoring at Brandywine with 1,749 points in 106 games. He also owns the Brandywine three-point record, having made 275 during his career, and ranks among Brandywine's rebounding leaders with 825.

A two-time First Team All-PSUAC standout and two-time USCAA All-American, Barrouk led Brandywine to an appearance in the PSUAC Championship game for only the third time in team history in 2021-22.

Academically, Barrouk will be completing his undergraduate degree in business management in May with plans to complete his MBA by next spring. Barrouk currently owns a 3.67 GPA and has been named to the Dean's List each of the last six semesters. He is a three-time PSUAC All-Academic Team selection and earned his third USCAA National Academic Team award this spring. A 2023 Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area honoree, Barrouk has also been selected to earn the John Fritz Sportsmanship Award from the PSUAC during the last two seasons.

Barrouk's community involvement includes volunteering to participate in "Bag It Chester" by going door-to-door in the local community to hand out reusable grocery bags to residents and volunteering at his church. Bryce has also been very involved in Brandywine athletics during his time on campus. He works as a gameday student worker during the fall and spring seasons and was a baseball team manager in 2022. He also worked to coordinate Brandywine's Threes for THON Night last season.

Brandywine has produced 17 John S. Egli Award winners, the most among the Commonwealth Campuses. Barrouk is the second Brandywine men's basketball player to receive the honor.
