Three-Pointers, Second-Half Run Key 74-53 Brandywine Victory

MEDIA, Pa. -- The Penn State Brandywine men's basketball team drilled 12 three-pointers and used a 19-3 second-half run to claim a 74-53 victory over Penn State Mont Alto on Friday night.

Mont Alto held an 11-6 lead with 14:47 to go in the first half, but Colin Hockenbrock's (Wilmington, Del./St. Elizabeth) layup sparked a 16-1 surge spanning the next five minutes for the Lions. Hockenbrock followed his layup with a triple that knotted the count and Johnta Dunson (Philadelphia, Pa./Freire Charter) added a layup 43 seconds later to put Brandywine in front for the first time. Bryce Barrouk (Glen Mills, Pa./Rustin) sandwiched a lay-in and a triple around another Hockenbrock basket, while Jamar Wright (Wilmington, Del./Conrad School of Science) made the count 22-12 with a basket at the 9:56 mark.

Mont Alto cut the Lions' lead to five, but Brandywine embarked on another run, this one 11-straight points, aided by triples from Barrouk, Hockenbrock and A.J. Dreger (Newtown Square, Pa./Bonner-Prendie) to snag a 35-17 advantage.

After Mont Alto countered with eight consecutive points, Dreger beat the buzzer with a long triple to send the Lions into the half leading 38-25.

Mont Alto steadily chipped into the Brandywine lead, cutting the margin to six points on three occasions before getting within four at 50-46 with 8:58 to go in regulation; however, Jordan Graves (Media, Pa./Strath Haven) took over for the Lions during the final eight minutes, scoring all 14 of his points.

Graves produced 12 points during a 19-3 surge for the Lions that helped Brandywine put the game away. Ten of those points came in a span of less than four minutes as Brandywine's lead grew from four points to 16. Hockenbrock added a layup and a free throw, while Dunson put the cap on the run by knocking down two free throws that made the count 70-49 with under three minutes to play.

Graves was one of four double-figure scorers for Brandywine, which shot 42 percent from the field to end a two-game skid. Hockenbrock tallied 17 points and nine rebounds, while Dreger canned five triples for 15 points. Barrouk paired 10 points with 14 rebounds.

Brandywine (14-9, 13-4 PSUAC) will host Penn State Lehigh Valley for its final regular-season home game Monday night at 8:00 PM.
