Lions Comeback Late To Post First Win

VERO BEACH, Fla. -- Penn State Brandywine plated four runs during its final at-bat and scored its first victory of the season, topping Trinity International University 7-5 at Holman Stadium in Vero Beach on Saturday night.

The Lions (1-4) loaded the bases with two outs during the bottom of the sixth inning and knotted the score at 5-5 when a pair of runs scored following a throwing error by TIU second baseman Scott Krawiec. Brandywine's next batter, Tom Osenbach (Newtown Square, Pa./West Chester Christian) delivered a go-ahead, two-run base hit making the score 7-5. The two RBI pushed Osenbach past 100 for his career.

Brian Bosco (Wallingford, Pa./Strath Haven) shut down Trinity in the top of the seventh, enducing a fly out to end the game for his first win. Bosco pitched the final three innings in relief, allowing two earned runs and striking out two. Starter Troy Mucchetti (Haverford, Pa./Haverford) was strong on the mound, fanning four over the first four innings.

Brandywine took a 3-0 lead after two innings as freshmen Dave DiMeglio (Morton, Pa./Ridley) and Pat Tackney (Broomall, Pa./Marple Newtown) recorded back-to-back RBI singles.

Trinity clawed back scoring once in the fourth and then took the lead with a four-run fifth. The Trojans pieced together four of their eight hits during the fifth frame and plated four before the Brandywine rally.

Osenbach went 3-for-4 at the plate and knocked in a pair, while Doug Medrano (Valley Stream, N.Y./Valley Stream Central) reached base in all three at-bats, walking twice and singling in the fourth inning.

Brandywine continues play in Vero Beach Sunday afternoon against Miami Hamilton at 4:00 pm.
