Brandywine Improves To 6-0 In PSUAC With Wins At DuBois

DUBOIS, Pa. – The Penn State Brandywine softball team earned its third-straight conference sweep as the Lions pounded Penn State DuBois 11-2 in six innings in game one and produced a seventh-inning rally to claim game two by a 4-1 score.

Game One: Penn State Brandywine 11, Penn State DuBois 2

Brandywine got the scoring started in the first inning of the opener as Jess James (Yardley, Pa./Pennsbury) led off with a single, Gianna Terpolilli (Hammonton, N.J./Our Lady of Mercy Academy) walked, and both came around to score on Payton Landis' (Coatesville, Pa./Coatesville) base hit.

Landis knocked in another run in the third, this time plating Meghan Ferry (Gloucester City, N.J./Gloucester City) with a double. Two batters later, Crystal Cassario (Levittown, Pa./Pennsbury) added a single that upped the lead to 4-0 when Landis crossed home.

James recorded a one-out triple in the fourth and scored via Terpolilli's bunt, while three runs came across in the fifth and sixth for the Lions. Singles by Karly Rees (Oxford, Pa./Oxford), Lianna DeDios (Elmwood Park, N.J./Memorial) and Gianna Casale (Hamilton, N.J./Steinert) led to the three-run fifth, while Terpolilli, Ferry and Landis doubled in succession and DeDios and Destiny Brophy (Bristol, Pa./Bristol) tallied singles during the sixth.

All nine starters tallied at least one hit paced by Landis' 3-for-3 effort at the plate. Landis knocked in four runs, while DeDios, Ferry and James all collected two hits. Cassario pitched all six innings to earn her seventh win of the spring.

Game Two: Penn State Brandywine 4, Penn State DuBois 1

DuBois' third-inning run accounted for all of the scoring through six innings in game two, but a four-run rally for the Lions led to the sweep.

Lizzy Scott silenced the Lions' bats for six innings, but Casale's lead-off single got the comeback started and broke up the no-hit bid. Ferry followed with a base hit before Landis tied the score at 1-1 with a RBI single.

Rees' groundout to second base was enough to score Ferry with the go-ahead run. Cassario doubled in Landis to provide an insurance tally and later crossed home when Brophy sent a single to right field.

DuBois loaded the bases with one out during its half of the seventh, but a line out to Landis and popup snagged by James ended the threat.

Cassario recorded her second win of the day after striking out five, while scattering seven singles and yielding one run.
