Turnovers Costly For Lions In Setback

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Thirty turnovers proved too much to overcome as the Penn State Brandywine women's basketball team dropped an 87-70 decision at Penn State Lehigh Valley on Saturday night.

Brandywine held Lehigh Valley to 30 percent shooting, but the hosts netted 23 points off Brandywine miscues and held a 65-46 boards, while scoring 24 second-chance points.

Trinell Watson (Pottstown, Pa./Pottstown) led the Lions' scoring effort with a season-best 17 points. She knocked down 5-of-10 shots from the field and seven free throws, while adding four rebounds and two steals.

Anaiyah Allen (Lutz, Fla./Steinbrenner) registered a 10-point, 11-rebound double-double and Amanda Floyd (Glenolden, Pa./Interboro) notched 15 points and nine boards. Kiara Koger (Philadelphia, Pa./Neumann-Goretti) added nine rebounds and a team-high five assists.

Lehigh Valley opened up a 23-14 edge through 10 minutes after finishing the opening quarter with a 10-3 spurt. The hosts extended the margin to 41-29 at halftime.

Brandywine trimmed the deficit to 51-39 following a Koger layup at the 7:14 mark of the third quarter, but 11 turnovers over the next seven minutes allowed Lehigh Valley to pull away.

Brandywine (1-2, 1-1 PSUAC) returns home Tuesday to host Alvernia at 6:00 PM.
