Brandywine Returns To Win Column With Victory At New Kensington

NEW KENSINGTON, Pa. – Penn State Brandywine outscored Penn State New Kensington 36-14 during the second half as the Lions' women's basketball team returned to the win column for the first time since December by defeating host New Kensington 73-39 on Saturday afternoon.

Brandywine outscored New Kensington 17-2 over the final 5:47 of the first quarter and built a 23-8 lead through one stanza.

The hosts narrowed the margin to six points near the midway point of the second period, but consecutive layups from Trinell Watson (Pottstown, Pa./Pottstown), Anaiyah Allen (Lutz, Fla./Steinbrenner) and Amanda Floyd (Glenolden, Pa./Interboro) sent the Lions' lead back to double figures.

After leading by 12 points at intermission, Brandywine put the game away by limiting New Kensington to 3-for-32 shooting during the game's final 20 minutes.

The Lions held PSNK without a point for nearly six minutes during the third quarter, scoring 11-straight points, to pull away. Floyd and Kiara Koger (Philadelphia, Pa./Neumann-Goretti) aided the run with two buckets each, while Sierra Diawara (Glenolden, Pa./Interboro) capped the surge with a triple at the 3:33 mark.

Brandywine's advantage grew as large as 35 points late in the final stanza.

Allen produced a 12-point, 10-rebound double-double, while Floyd led the scoring effort with 15 points. Diawara added 12 points and Watson notched 10 points, five rebounds and three steals. Koger notched eight points, six assists and five boards.

Brandywine shot 42 percent from the field and limited New Kensington to 23 percent shooting. The Lions forced 23 turnovers, scoring 30 points off New Kensington miscues.
