Brandywine Drops Heartbreaking Quarterfinal To Schuylkill

MEDIA, Pa. -- Fourth-seeded Penn State Brandywine led No. 1 Penn State Schuylkill with under one minute to play, but Kassidy Ingram's jumper with 20 seconds on the clock gave the hosts the lead as Schuylkill escaped with a 64-63 victory over Brandywine during the quarterfinal round of the Penn State University Athletic Conference Women's Basketball Tournament on Sunday afternoon.

Brandywine had erased a six-point deficit with under five minutes to play, taking a one-point lead on three occasions during the final three minutes; however, Schuylkill answered with a basket each time.

Trailing 58-52, Amanda Floyd (Glenolden, Pa./Interboro) and Anaiyah Allen (Lutz, Fla./Steinbrenner) knocked down consecutive shots to get Brandywine within two. Kiara Koger (Philadelphia, Pa./Neumann-Goretti) converted a three-point play to put Brandywine in front 59-58 with 2:58 to go.

Ingram sank two free throws, but Allen answered with a bucket at the 1:11 mark to once again hand Brandywine a one-point edge. After Nadia King sank a jumper for the hosts, Allen had the answer for Brandywine, canning a jumper to put the Lions in front 63-62 with 26 ticks remaining on the clock.

Following a timeout, Ingram canned a basket that made the count 64-63. Brandywine had two possessions with an opportunity to take the lead during the final 10 seconds, but a turnover and missed jump shot spoiled the Lions' upset bid.

The game was tightly-contested throughout as it featured six ties and 10 lead changes. Neither team led by more than seven points at any time.

Brandywine trailed 30-29 at the break and overcame a seven-point third quarter deficit by netting 10-straight points to vault in front 42-39. Schuylkill brought a one-point edge into the final stanza before expanding its lead to 58-52 at the 5:48 mark.

Floyd led Brandywine with 21 points on 7-of-15 shooting and tallied five assists. Floyd's 21 points pushed her past 1,300 for her career, only the fourth Brandywine women's basketball player to accomplish the feat.

Allen and Koger both notched 12 points, while Trinell Watson (Pottstown, Pa./Pottstown) added seven points. Koger pulled in a team-best nine boards and Allen grabbed seven rebounds.

Brandywine finished its season with a record of 12-14.
