Brandywine Runs Away From Hazleton 79-54

MEDIA, Pa. -- Penn State Brandywine allowed 21 first-quarter points, but limited Penn State Hazleton to just 33 points the rest of the way as the Lions pulled away, winning their third-straight Penn State University Athletic Conference women's basketball game by a 79-54 count on Wednesday night.

Despite eight points from Kiara Koger (Philadelphia, Pa./Neumann-Goretti), Hazleton owned a 21-18 lead through one quarter as the visitors shot better than 60 percent from the field.

Brandywine cooled the Hazleton offense over the next 10 minutes, limiting Hazleton to just two points. Anaiyah Allen's (Lutz, Fla./Steinbrenner) bucket gave Brandywine the lead at the 4:45 mark and began a run of 10-straight points, sending the Lions into intermission with a 30-23 edge.

Hazleton trimmed the margin to five points early in the second half, but a three-point play from Allen followed by consecutive baskets by Amanda Floyd (Glenolden, Pa./Interboro) and Trinell Watson (Pottstown, Pa./Pottstown) quickly opened up a 12-point Brandywine edge. The Lions extended the margin as large as 16 points via four markers from Sierra Diawara (Glenolden, Pa./Interboro) during a 17-second span late in the period.

The visitors closed with 12 by the end of the third quarter and were within nine points with 7:20 to play; however, Watson recorded back-to-back three-point plays and Floyd buried consecutive three-pointers as the Lions used a 15-3 run spanning three minutes to pull away.

Koger flirted with a triple-double before finishing with a game-high 19 points, eight assists and eight rebounds. Floyd tallied 14 points, while Watson added 13 points and three steals and Diawara notched 13 points in 18 minutes of action.

Brandywine also received nine points from Allen, eight points from Kaitlyn Johnson (Clifton Heights, Pa./Upper Darby) and seven rebounds from Erin Michael (Brookhaven, Pa./Sun Valley)

Brandywine connected for nine three-pointers and made 12-of-14 free throw attempts, while shooting 42 percent from the field overall. The Lions scored 30 points off 24 Hazleton turnovers.

Brandywine (8-8, 7-3 PSUAC) visits Penn State Schuylkill on Friday at 6:00 PM.
