Floyd Scores 1,000th Point; Lions Fall At Eastern

ST. DAVID'S, Pa. – Senior Amanda Floyd (Glenolden, Pa./Interboro) notched the 1,000th point of her career, but the Penn State Brandywine women's basketball team was downed at Eastern University, falling 77-68 on Saturday afternoon.

Floyd entered the Brandywine record books at the 7:02 mark of the fourth quarter during her 68th career game when she sank the front end of two free throws, giving her 11 points on the day. The 11th member of Brandywine's 1,000-point club, Floyd finished the afternoon with 14 points, seven rebounds, two assists and two steals in 38 minutes of action.

Trinell Watson (Pottstown, Pa./Pottstown) was the Lions' leading scorer with 15 points, while Kiara Koger (Philadelphia, Pa./Neumann-Goretti) produced a 10-point, 11-rebound double-double and handed out four assists. Cheyenne Rivas (Thorndale, Pa./Collegium Charter) added 11 points and four boards.

Eastern led by six after one quarter and pushed the margin to double figures early in the second, but a 14-4 Brandywine run, which featured scoring from five different players and spanned more than five minutes, knotted the count at 26-all. An Eagles three-pointer put the hosts back on top before Sierra Diawara (Glenolden, Pa./Interboro) sank two free throws to get the Lions within two at the break.

Brandywine led for the first time since early in the opening quarter when Koger knocked down a jumper at the 7:28 mark of the third period. The Lions' lead reached five points following a Floyd basket and a triple from Rivas, but nine-straight points from Eastern put the Eagles back on top. Four free throws, two from Floyd and two from Arianna Henry (Wilmington, Del./St. Elizabeth), during the final 64 seconds of the quarter sent the team's into the final period tied 53-53.

Eastern netted the final quarter's first five points, but Floyd's 1,001st point brought Brandywine back within two. The Lions still trailed by two with under five minutes to play; however, the hosts pulled away over the next three minutes by outscoring Brandywine 13-4.

Brandywine outrebounded Eastern 47-36 and shot 37 percent from the field, but was hurt by 25 turnovers that led to 31 Eagle points.

Brandywine (5-6, 4-3 PSUAC) returns from the holiday break on January 4 when the Lions visit Neumann at 6:00 PM.
