Brandywine Secures Postseason Bid In 84-45 Triumph

DUNMORE, Pa. – The Penn State Brandywine women's basketball team will play in the postseason for the 19th consecutive year after the Lions clinched the final berth in the Penn State University Athletic Conference Tournament with an 84-45 victory at Penn State Scranton on Tuesday night.

Brandywine will be the No. 4 seed from the PSUAC East Division when the conference tournament begins this weekend. The Lions will travel to top-seeded Penn State Schuylkill for a quarterfinal matchup.

Amanda Floyd (Glenolden, Pa./Interboro) scored 19 of her game-high 28 points during the opening half. Floyd knocked down six three-pointers and pulled in 10 rebounds.

Erin Michael (Brookhaven, Pa./Sun Valley) tallied a season-high 11 points, while Cheyenne Rivas (Thorndale, Pa./Collegium Charter) and Anaiyah Allen (Lutz, Fla./Steinbrenner) both produced nine points. Sierra Diawara (Glenolden, Pa./Interboro) added seven points and seven rebounds.

Brandywine shot 47 percent from the field and buried 12 triples, while limiting Scranton to 23 percent shooting and forcing 21 turnovers. All 10 players recorded at least one basket and one rebound for the Lions.

Brandywine took advantage of Scranton's nine first-quarter turnovers by running out to a 31-4 lead. Allen, Floyd and Rivas combined for 17 points during the second period as Brandywine opened up a 56-17 edge at intermission.

The Lions' lead was never in doubt during the final 20 minutes with the margin growing as large as 46 points early in the fourth quarter.

Brandywine (12-13, 11-8 PSUAC) and Schuylkill will battle in the PSUAC quarterfinals for the second-straight year. Schuylkill claimed a 64-51 victory during last season's tournament. Date and time for the game will be determined Wednesday morning.
