Brandywine Drops 74-69 Decision At York

YORK, Pa. – Penn State York scored the final five points of the game and defeated the Penn State Brandywine women's basketball team 74-69 on Saturday afternoon.

Behind nine first-quarter points from Amanda Floyd (Glenolden, Pa./Interboro), Brandywine held a 21-11 edge through 10 minutes.

The Lions' offense went cold in the second period as Brandywine endured a scoring drought of nearly six minutes, allowing York to climb in front. The hosts appeared primed to take a lead into halftime, but Floyd beat the buzzer with three-pointer and sent Brandywine into intermission with a 34-33 edge.

York netted the first six points of the third quarter to vault back into the lead and pushed the advantage as large as nine points with four minutes to go in the period, but Brandywine trimmed the margin to five entering the final stanza.

Trinell Watson (Pottstown, Pa./Pottstown) provided five points during a 10-0 Brandywine surge to start the fourth as the Lions grabbed a 59-54 edge. York answered with eight of the next 10 points to go back in front and then used a quick, 6-0 spurt to build a 69-63 edge with 2:35 to play.

Kiara Koger (Philadelphia, Pa./Neumann-Goretti) knocked down two free throws and after a Watson steal, Katelyn Johnson (Clifton Heights, Pa./Upper Darby) buried a jumper to bring Brandywine within two. Seventeen seconds later, Floyd canned a jumper to knot the count at 69-69.

Michaela Fink answered with a basket to put York back in front and after four consecutive empty possessions, Brandywine was forced to foul. Jillian Foster and Desii Garcia-Hernandez combined to make three-of-four free throws during the final 25 seconds to put the game away for York.

Floyd topped Brandywine in scoring with 18 points and grabbed eight rebounds, while Johnson tallied 14 points and four steals. Allen added 12 points, seven boards and six steals and Koger notched nine points, 11 boards and four assists.

Brandywine (10-11, 9-6 PSUAC) opens a three-game home stand Tuesday against Penn State Schuylkill at 6:00 PM.
