Brandywine Cruises To 88-40 Victory Over Cairn

MEDIA, Pa. -- Penn State Brandywine netted 33 points off 35 Cairn turnovers as the Lions' women's basketball team eased to an 88-40 non-conference victory on Wednesday night.

Brandywine scored the game's first nine points and led 20-12 after one quarter. Amanda Floyd (Glenolden, Pa./Interboro) contributed nine of the Lions' first quarter points, while the Brandywine defense forced 16 turnovers in 10 minutes.

Kiara Koger's (Philadelphia, Pa./Neumann-Goretti) steal and fast-break layup started the second period and Trinell Watson (Pottstown, Pa./Pottstown) followed with a lay-in and three-pointer as the Lions' lead moved to 27-12. Brandywine continued to pull away, expanding the margin to 44-22 when Sierra Diawara (Glenolden, Pa./Interboro) delivered a three-point play with 36 seconds to go in the half.

The second half proved to be more of the same for Brandywine as Koger, Floyd and Anaiyah Allen (Lutz, Fla./Steinbrenner) combined for all 15 points during a 15-0 Lions' surge to begin the third quarter.

Brandywine's lead reached 39 points by the conclusion of the third period and swelled to its largest margin of the night with 2:16 to go in regulation when Arianna Henry (Wilmington, Del./St. Elizabeth) knocked down her second triple, making the count 86-38.

Brandywine received a team-high 23 points on 11-of-19 shooting from Floyd, while Koger tallied 15 points, four assists and three steals. Rivas and Watson both notched 12 points and Allen registered team highs with 11 rebounds and seven steals. Diawara tallied seven points and nine boards.

Brandywine shot 43 percent from the field and held a 52-44 edge on the boards, while limiting the Highlanders to 23 percent shooting.

The Lions (4-4, 3-2 PSUAC) host Penn State Fayette Friday beginning at 6:00 PM.
