Brandywine Comes Up Short At Ursinus

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – The Penn State Brandywine women's basketball team wrapped up the non-conference portion of its schedule Saturday as the Lions were downed 75-47 at Ursinus College.

The Bears ran out to an 11-2 lead, but Brandywine rallied to within three when Amanda Floyd (Glenolden, Pa./Interboro) sank a layup with 2:38 to go in the first quarter, completing a 10-4 Lions' spurt.

After pushing its lead to 23-16 through 10 minutes, Ursinus pulled away during the second period, using a 15-0 surge to build a 21-point edge.

The Bears opened up a 24-point halftime margin and never let Brandywine within 20 points the rest of the way.

Floyd and Kiara Koger (Philadelphia, Pa./Neumann-Goretti) tied for the team lead with 12 points. Floyd added eight rebounds, four assists, four steals and two blocked shots, while Koger notched seven boards and three steals. Cheyenne Rivas (Thorndale, Pa./Collegium Charter) and Kaitlyn Johnson (Clifton Heights, Pa./Upper Darby) both chipped in with six points.

The Bears held a 49-26 rebounding edge and shot 43 percent from the field, while making all 13 of their free throw attempts.

Brandywine (5-8, 4-3 PSUAC) plays its final 12 games of the regular season against conference opponents beginning next Saturday at Penn State New Kensington (3:00 PM).
