Brandywine Drops Non-Conference Matchup With Alvernia

MEDIA, Pa. -- Alvernia University used a 16-1 first-half run to seize control and defeated Penn State Brandywine 79-53 in non-conference women's basketball action on Tuesday night.

Kiara Koger's (Philadelphia, Pa./Neumann-Goretti) layup knotted the count at 15-15 with 47 seconds to play in the first quarter, but Jordyn Ingelido answered with a three-pointer for the Golden Wolves, beginning the run that would span just under four minutes.

Arianna Henry (Wilmington, Del./St. Elizabeth) ended the Lions' scoring drought by knocking down a triple and added her second three-pointer of the period at the 4:52 mark to trim the deficit to 34-22; however, Alvernia scored 15 of the final quarter's 21 points to build a 49-28 edge at the break.

The Golden Wolves' edge did not dip below 20 points during the final 20 minutes.

Henry canned a trio of three-pointers and paced the Lions with 11 points, along with three steals, while Amanda Floyd (Glenolden, Pa./Interboro) tallied eight points and eight rebounds. Floyd matched Koger and Erin Michael (Brookhaven, Pa./Sun Valley) for the team lead on the boards.

Alvernia shot 36 percent from the field and forced 24 turnovers, while Brandywine connected on 13-of-16 free throw attempts, but was limited to 25 percent shooting from the floor.

Brandywine (1-3, 1-1 PSUAC) returns from the holiday break Tuesday to host Penn State Wilkes-Barre at 6:00 PM.
