Coleman, Rivas Named Arthur Ashe Jr. Sports Scholars

MEDIA, Pa. -- Penn State Brandywine sophomore women's soccer player Sierra Coleman (Folcroft, Pa./Academy Park) and junior women's basketball player Cheyenne Rivas (Thorndale, Pa./Collegium Charter) were named Arthur Ashe Jr. Sports Scholars on Thursday.

Sponsored by Diverse: Issues in Higher Education Magazine, the Arthur Ashe Jr. Sports Scholar awards honor undergraduate students who have excelled in the classroom as well as on the athletic field. Inspired by tennis legend Arthur Ashe, Jr.'s commitment to education as well as his love for the game of tennis, the magazine has selected the top minority student-athletes who have completed at least two semesters at their institution and hold a grade-point average of 3.20 or higher every year since 1992. Coleman and Rivas are the fifth and sixth Brandywine student-athletes to receive the award since 2019.

Coleman holds a 3.84 GPA as an English major. During the fall, Coleman was selected to the USCAA National Academic Team and earned PSUAC All-Academic Team for the second-straight season. She competed in 14 matches for the Brandywine women's soccer team, starting five, while helping the Lions make an appearance in the conference championship match.

Rivas, a communications major, owns a 3.64 GPA. She was also named to the USCAA National Academic Team at the conclusion of the 2022-23 basketball season and will earn her second-straight PSUAC All-Academic Team award following the spring semester. Rivas was the Lions' fifth-leading scorer, averaging 6.4 points per game during 24 contests last winter.
