Caserta Earns 200th Victory; Brandywine Sweeps Day Two In Florida

AUBURNDALE, Fla. – Penn State Brandywine Head Coach Mark Caserta won the 200th game of his career as the Lions rode a hot-hitting offense to a pair of victories Monday morning, defeating Saint Vincent 11-1 in five innings and Concordia-Moorhead 12-5.

Game One: Penn State Brandywine 11, Saint Vincent 1 (5 innings)

Brandywine put a four spot on the scoreboard in the first inning and never looked back in winning the day's opening game 11-1 over Saint Vincent in five innings.

Farrell Everett (Wynnewood, Pa./Haverford), Meghan Ferry (Gloucester, N.J./Gloucester City) and Kaylee Mushinski (Allentown, N.J./Allentown) all recorded two-hit efforts for the Lions. Mushinski drove in three runs, while Everett and Payton Landis (Coatesville, Pa./Coatesville) both produced two RBI. Ferry scored three runs and reached base safely in all four of her at-bats.

Crystal Cassario (Levittown, Pa./Pennsbury) allowed a first inning run, but was dominant the rest of the way, limiting the Bearcats to one hit over the final four innings. Cassario recorded one strikeout and yielded just two hits in earning her first victory of the season.

Mushinski drove in Brandywine's first of four runs during the first inning, plating Emily Reagan (Harrisburg, Pa./Bishop McDevitt) with a base hit. Everett also tallied a run-scoring base hit, while Ferry scored on a wild pitch and Landis drove in Mushinski with a fielder's choice ground ball.

Brandywine put the game away by adding six more runs in the fourth. Mushinski and Ferry both tallied RBI doubles and Everett and Landis each drove in runs with singles.

Game Two: Penn State Brandywine 12, Concordia-Moorhead 5

Caserta, the only head coach in the program's 10-year history, earned his 200th victory with the Lions during the nightcap. He now owns a 200-118-1 record at Brandywine and has guided the Lions to seven-straight Penn State University Athletic Conference championships.

Mushinski's bat stayed hot as she added four hits in five at-bats and three more RBI. Ferry reached base five times in as many plate appearances, posting two hits and three walks, while Landis, April Lewandowski (Atco, N.J./Hammonton) and Lianna DeDios (Elmwood Park, N.J./Elmwood Park Memorial) all tallied two hits. Lewandowski also did the pitching, earning her first college victory with a six-strikeout, complete-game effort.

Aided by four walks and three hits, Brandywine pushed five runs across the plate during the bottom of the first inning. Landis recorded an RBI single and Mushinski stole home, while two more runners crossed the plate via bases-loaded walks.

Lewandowski's run-scoring single made the count 6-0 through two innings and after the Cobbers got three runs back in the third, the Lions answered with a three-run bottom of the frame. Mushinski scored two with a single and Landis followed with another base hit that plated Ferry.

Ferry scored on via wild pitch in the fifth and doubled in Gianna Casale (Hamilton, N.J./Steinert) in the sixth before Mushinski's sixth hit of the day, an RBI single, capped the scoring.

Brandywine (3-1) faces West Virginia Wesleyan (11:30 AM) and Spring Arbor (2:00 PM) on Tuesday in Clermont.
