Brandywine Reaches 30-Win Mark In Season-Ending Sweep

IMMACULATA, Pa. – The Penn State Brandywine softball team reached 30 victories by sweeping its regular-season finale at Immaculata on Tuesday afternoon. The Lions won twice by run rule, claiming victories by scores of 10-2 and 12-1.

Game One: Penn State Brandywine 10, Immaculata 2 (5 innings)

Brandywine eased to a run rule victory in the opener, winning by a score of 10-2 in five innings.

Lexi Bussenger (Bangor, Pa./Bangor), who was named PSUAC Hitter of the Week earlier in the day, recorded her sixth-straight multi-hit game as she went 3-for-4 at the plate with four runs scored and three stolen bases. Kaylee Mushinski (Allentown, N.J./Allentown) and Lianna DeDios (Elmwood Park, N.J./Elmwood Park Memorial) both collected two hits and two RBI, while Karly Rees (Oxford, Pa./Oxford) and Farrell Everett (Wynnewood, Pa./Haverford) each produced two hits.

April Lewandowski (Atco, N.J./Hammonton) won her ninth game of the season. She went all five innings in the circle, recording five strikeouts, while allowing two runs on four hits.

Bussenger singled, stole second and scored on Rees' double for a 1-0 Brandywine lead through one inning. Run-scoring singles from Mushinski and Emily Reagan (Harrisburg, Pa./Bishop McDevitt) and an error that allowed Everett to cross home upped the martin to 4-0 after two innings.

Reagan's sacrifice fly plated Bussenger in the fourth, but Immaculata got two runs back during the bottom of the inning. Brandywine answered by scoring five times with two outs in the fifth. DeDios delivered a two-run single and scored on Bussenger's triple. Bussenger crossed home via wild pitch and Mushinski put a cap on the scoring with an RBI double.

Game Two: Penn State Brandywine 12, Immaculata 1 (5 innings)

Brandywine completed the sweep and hit the 30-win mark by running away with a 12-1 victory in game two.

Rees started the scoring with a two-run home run in the first inning before DeDios upped the margin to 4-1 with a two-run double in the fourth.

Brandywine busted the game open in the fifth, sending 13 batters to the plate, while scoring eight runs. Reagan, Jess James (Yardley, Pa./Pennsbury) and Destiny Brophy (Bristol, Pa./Bristol) knocked in runs with singles. DeDios added a base hit that scored two, while Everett forced in a run when she was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded and Rees scored a run with a ground ball.

Rees posted two hits and three RBI, while James collected two hits, two runs scored and a pair of RBI. DeDios drove in four runs with two hits and Reagan added a pair of hits.

Maddie DeFazio (Fairless Hills, Pa./Pennsbury) pitched all five innings, striking out six. She allowed one run on four hits, earning her 10th win of the season.

Brandywine (30-8, 16-2 PSUAC) opens the PSUAC Tournament Friday at Maple Zone at 12:00 PM.
