Lewandowski And Mushinski Earn First Spring Weekly Awards

MEDIA, Pa. -- A pair of Penn State Brandywine freshmen claimed the spring's first Penn State University Athletic Conference Player of the Week awards as April Lewandowski (Atco, N.J./Hammonton) was named Pitcher of the Week and Kaylee Mushinski (Allentown, N.J./Allentown) was selected as the Hitter of the Week. Mushinski also earned United States Collegiate Athletic Association Hitter of the Week honors.

Lewandowski went 3-0 with a pair of complete games in the circle last week during the Lions' Spring Break trip to Florida. She earned her first victory by striking out six batters over seven innings of a 12-5 triumph over Concordia-Moorhead. Lewandowski also twirled a complete-game shutout against Wheaton, limiting the Thunder to five singles, and tossed three scoreless innings in relief versus West Virginia Wesleyan.

Overall during the week, Lewandowski threw 22.0 innings, pitching to an earned run average of 1.91, while striking out 12 batters. She also helped herself at the plate with three hits and five runs batted in.

Mushinski hit safely in her first eight games, batting to an average of .548 with 17 knocks in 31 at-bats. Four of her hits went for extra bases, including a home run in a victory over West Virginia Wesleyan. During her eight-game hitting streak, Mushinski posted six consecutive games with at least two hits.

With 16 RBI, Mushinski currently sits as the national leader in runs batted in. She totaled five RBI in a 6-0 victory over Wheaton, while also driving in three runs in three consecutive games earlier in the week.

Mushinski also owns a team-high four stolen bases in five attempts.

Brandywine (5-3) hosts Cedar Crest Thursday in its home opener at 3:00 PM.
