DUNMORE, Pa. – The Penn State Brandywine softball earned a pair of run-rule victories over Penn State Scranton on Friday, winning by scores of 33-1 and 14-1.
Game One: Penn State Brandywine 33, Penn State Scranton 1
Brandywine pounded out a team-record 37 hits en route to winning 33-1 in the opener.
Lexi Bussenger (Bangor, Pa./Bangor) set a program single-game record with six hits and matched the team record by scoring five runs, while also driving in six.
Farrell Everett (Wynnewood, Pa./Haverford) recorded five hits in six at-bats, scored four times and collected three RBI, while Crystal Cassario (Levittown, Pa./Pennsbury) produced five RBI. Cassario was one of five Lions with three hits, joining Lianna DeDios (Elmwood Park, N.J./Elmwood Park Memorial), Becky Valente (Royersford, Pa./Spring-Ford), Payton Landis (Coatesville, Pa./Coatesville) and Karly Rees (Oxford, Pa./Oxford).
Sarah Moore (New Holland, Pa./Pequea Valley) pitched all five innings to earn the victory. She struck out two and limited Scranton to one run on four hits.
Game Two: Penn State Brandywine 14, Penn State Scranton 1
Brandywine put game two out of reach by scoring eight times during the second inning as the Lions won going away, 14-1.
Bussenger had another big game with three more hits, along with three RBI, three runs scored and two stolen bases.
DeDios, Landis, Everett, Gianna Casale (Hamilton, N.J./Steinert) and Kaylee Mushinski (Allentown, N.J./Allentown) all tallied two hits. DeDios and Emily Reagan (Harrisburg, Pa./Bishop McDevitt) both drove in three runs, while Mushinski and Landis collected two RBI each.
Maddie DeFazio (Fairless Hills, Pa./Pennsbury) recorded a career-high 10 strikeouts over five innings of work to up her record to 9-1 in the circle this spring.
Brandywine (26-8, 14-2 PSUAC) visits Penn State Schuylkill on Saturday at 11:00 AM needing two victories to clinch the PSUAC regular-season title.
