Brandywine Advances To PSUAC Title Game

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. – Penn State Brandywine will play for its eighth-straight Penn State University Athletic Conference championship after defeating Penn State Schuylkill 8-0 in a six-inning semifinal on Monday afternoon.

Brandywine's first six runs all crossed home with two outs as the Lions built a 6-0 edge through four innings and never looked back.

PSUAC Player of the Year Kaylee Mushinski (Allentown, N.J./Allentown) got a two-out rally started in the first inning with a base hit. After moving to second on a wild pitch, Mushinski came around to score on Payton Landis' (Coatesville, Pa./Coatesville) single for a 1-0 Brandywine lead.

An error and a walk extended the Lions' second inning and both Emily Reagan (Harrisburg, Pa./Bishop McDevitt) and Lianna DeDios (Elmwood Park, N.J./Elmwood Park Memorial) came around to score thanks to a Schuylkill throwing error.

Brandywine doubled its lead to 6-0 in the fourth. Lexi Bussenger (Bangor, Pa./Bangor) singled, stole second and crossed home on Jess James' (Yardley, Pa./Pennsbury) base hit. Mushinski followed with a double to score James and Landis later added a run-scoring single.

The Lions put the game away in the sixth as Bussenger doubled, swiped third and scored on James' single before Mushinski ended the game by run rule with an RBI triple.

After allowing a leadoff double to start the game, April Lewandowski (Atco, N.J./Hammonton) yielded just two hits the rest of the way. She blanked Schuylkill for the second time this season and posted her fourth shutout of the season. Lewandowski fanned four, earning her 10th victory of the spring.

Bussenger, James, Landis and Mushinski provided all of the offense for Brandywine, combining for 11 hits. Bussenger tallied three knocks and stole two bases and scored twice, while Landis and Mushinski both collected three hits and two RBI. James registered two hits, two runs and a stolen base.

Brandywine (32-8) will face Penn State New Kensington at 2:30 PM for the PSUAC championship.
