Teammates wait to celebrate Meghan Ferry's second home run of the day

Brandywine Rolls At USCAA World Series; Ferry, Mushinski Reach Milestones

DUBOIS, Pa. – Second-seeded Penn State Brandywine continued its run through the winners bracket as the Lions pounded No. 6 Penn State New Kensington by a count of 11-2 in five innings on Tuesday afternoon at the USCAA Softball World Series.

Meghan Ferry (Gloucester City, N.J./Gloucester City) legged out an inside-the-park home run in the first inning and added a second homer three innings later to break the program's career home run record. Ferry now owns 21 career home runs, breaking a tie with Katy Steffen, who hit 19 long balls from 2015-18.

Kaylee Mushinski (Allentown, N.J./Allentown) registered two hits to set a new single-season hit mark as she upped her total to 59 in 40 games this spring. She entered the day tied with Arianna Segich, who tallied 57 hits in 2019. Mushinski also drove in three runs, matching Alexa Anderson's single-season RBI record with 59.

Brandywine needed just seven hits to score its 11 runs. In addition to Ferry and Mushinski, Jess James (Yardley, Pa./Pennsbury) also collected a two-hit day and scored twice, while Lexi Bussenger (Bangor, Pa./Bangor) posted a hit, a stolen base and two runs scored.

Mushinski's one-out single scored James as Brandywine tied the score at 1-1 during the bottom of the first inning. Three batters later, Ferry laced a line drive that evaded New Kensington's diving left fielder as she sped around the bases for an inside-the-park, three-run home run.

Mushinski added to Brandywine's lead in the second, pushing Bussenger and James across with a two-out base hit.

Bussenger singled, stole second and scored on James' single in the fourth before Ferry's second three-run shot of the day, this one over the center field fence, put away Brandywine's fourth victory of the season over New Kensington in as many meetings.

April Lewandowski (Atco, N.J./Hammonton) earned her team-high 11th victory of the spring. She went all five innings in the circle, striking out three, while allowing two runs on six hits.

Brandywine, which matched its single-season record for victories by winning its 35th game, faces No. 4 Salem University on Wednesday at 2:00 PM with the winner advancing to Thursday's national championship game.
