DeFazio And Rees Land Final Regular-Season Player Of The Week Selections

MEDIA, Pa. -- Maddie DeFazio (Fairless Hills, Pa./Pennsbury) was named Penn State University Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Week and Karly Rees (Oxford, Pa./Oxford) earned United States Collegiate Athletic Association Hitter of the Week after helping the Penn State Brandywine softball team close out the regular season with a sweep at Immaculata University last week.

DeFazio tossed her fourth complete game of the season during game two of the doubleheader, limiting Immaculata to one run on four hits, while striking out six batters. DeFazio earned her team-leading 10th win of the season.

DeFazio has made 13 appearances in the circle, including six starts, this spring. She owns a 10-1 record and the second-lowest ERA among PSUAC pitchers at 2.50. In 50.1 innings pitched, DeFazio has recorded 35 strikeouts, tying for the team lead.

Rees started the scoring in game two with a two-run home run, her first of the season, during the top of the first inning. Overall last week, Rees produced four hits in six at-bats and drove in four runs, while scoring three times.

Rees has hit in 10-straight games and 13 of her last 14, recording six multi-hit efforts during that time. In 26 games, Rees is batting .507 with 20 runs scored and 16 RBI.

Brandywine (30-8) will continue its suspended PSUAC Tournament game against Penn State Schuylkill on Friday at 3:30 PM at Maple Zone. Brandywine leads Schuylkill 6-0 entering the top of the fourth inning.
