Brandywine Earns A Pair Of PSUAC Victories

MEDIA, Pa. -- Penn State Brandywine cruised 11-0 in game one and Gianna Casale (Hamilton, N.J./Steinert) delivered a walk-off single in game two as Brandywine defeated Penn State Fayette 3-2 to complete the softball doubleheader sweep on Friday afternoon.

Game One: Penn State Brandywine 11, Penn State Fayette 0 (5 innings)

Brandywine scored five times during the first inning and never looked back in winning game one 11-0.

Lexi Bussenger (Bangor, Pa./Bangor) walked and scored on an error for the first run, while Kaylee Mushinski (Allentown, N.J./Allentown) drove in Jess James (Yardley, Pa./Pennsbury) with a base hit. Crystal Cassario (Levittown, Pa./Pennsbury) doubled in Mushinski and Emily Reagan (Harrisburg, Pa./Bishop McDevitt) completed the scoring with a two-run double.

The Lions put the game away by adding six more runs to the scoreboard in the third. Mushinski led off with her third home run of the year over the left field fence. Reagan and Meghan Ferry (Gloucester City, N.J./Gloucester City) both provided RBI doubles, while James and Lianna DeDios (Elmwood Park, N.J./Elmwood Park Memorial) added run-scoring base hits.

Karly Rees (Oxford, Pa./Oxford) was 3-for-3 at the plate with two runs scored, while Reagan had two hits and three RBI. Mushinski provided two hits, two RBI and three runs and James tallied two hits and scored twice.

Cassario went the distance on the mound to earn her sixth win of the season. She struck out six batters, while allowing just one hit over 5.0 innings.

Game Two: Penn State Brandywine 3, Penn State Fayette 2

Brandywine was limited to just one run on two hits through six innings, but scored twice on three knocks in the seventh to claim the victory.

Farrell Everett (Wynnewood, Pa./Haverford) started the seventh with a base hit, while an error and a walk loaded the bases with no outs. DeDios drove in Everett with the game-tying run with a bloop single to right field. Casale followed by driving in Reagan with a single to left, giving Brandywine the one-run victory.

For the second-straight game, Bussenger handed Brandywine a 1-0 lead in the first inning. She singled, stole two bases and scored via error to put the Lions on the board.

April Lewandowski (Atco, N.J./Hammonton) carried a no-hitter into the sixth inning, but Fayette put together a two-out rally. The visitors recorded a trio of two-out hits, scoring twice to take the lead.

Lewandowski went all seven innings to earn her sixth victory of the season. She recorded one strikeout, while yielding two runs on three hits.

Bussenger reached base safely twice via a single and a walk and stole three bases, while Everett tallied two hits.

Brandywine (22-6, 10-2 PSUAC) plays its final home games of the regular season on Saturday as the Lions host Penn State New Kensington at Rustin High School for Senior Day beginning at 12:00 PM.
