TACOMA PARK, Md. -- Connor Lines (Philadelphia, Pa./Franklin Towne Charter) scored the game-winning goal during the second overtime period as the Penn State Brandywine men's soccer team defeated NAIA Washington Adventist University 4-3 on Thursday evening during the season opener for both squads.
Lines tapped in a corner kick feed from Axel Ayllon-Ortiz (Kennett Square, Pa./Kennett), netting the game-winning score for Brandywine, which won its season-opening match for the first time since 2016.
Playing for the first time since Nov. 10, 2019, Brandywine struck first on a goal early in the first half from Alex Sydor (White Plains, N.Y./Ardsley).
WAU answered with consecutive goals, but Brandywine knotted the count at 2-2 after 45 minutes. The Lions overcame another one-goal deficit in the second half, potting a goal late in regulation to force overtime. Lines' overtime tally came early in the second extra session after a scoreless first 10 minutes.
Brandywine (1-0) returns to Maryland on Saturday for a game at Goucher University at 4:00 pm.
