BALTIMORE, Md. – For the second time in three days, the Penn State Brandywine men's soccer team needed extra time. Following a season-opening win Thursday, the Lions played to a 0-0 draw at Goucher College on Saturday afternoon.
John Simpson (Philadelphia, Pa./Franklin Towne Charter) and Elijah DeBooth (Reading, Pa./Wilson) combined on the shutout in net for the Lions. Simpson stopped four shots, while DeBooth made a pair of saves.
The top scoring chance for either team came in the 86th minute when the Gophers were awarded a penalty kick, but DeBooth was up to the task, turning aside a shot by Zach LaFaver.
Seven different Lions put a shot on target during the 110 minutes; however, Goucher keeper Jeff Castro stopped all seven. Goucher held a slim 12-11 edge in shots overall.
During the two overtime periods, the teams combined for just one shot on goal. That shot came off the foot of Alexis Cordova Bernal (Oxford, Pa./Avon Grove) during the 103rd minute.
Brandywine (1-0-1) closes out its weekend in Maryland on Sunday at Stevenson University (4:00 pm).
